- Are used for a variety of purposes.

- Rocks are combinations of homogeneous substances called minerals.
- E.g., Diamond, limestone, fluoride, aluminium etc.

- Limestone consist of a single mineral only.
- Majority of rocks consists of several minerals.
- Only minerals are available in abundant in the form of rocks.
- There are nearly 2000 minerals found in the world.
