  Minerals

Properties of Minerals

  •      Homogeneous naturally occurring substances 
  •      That have a definite internal structure.
  •      Found in various forms of nature. 
  •      Are used for a variety of purposes.

Rocks 

  •     Rocks are combinations of homogeneous substances called minerals.
  •     E.g., Diamond, limestone, fluoride, aluminium etc.

Availability of Minerals 

  • Limestone consist of a single mineral only.
  • Majority of rocks consists of several minerals.
  • Only minerals are available in abundant in the form of rocks.
  • There are nearly 2000 minerals found in the world.

Physical properties (or) How do the minerals look like?

Physical Properties of Minerals 

  • Colour, hardness, crystal forms, luster and density changes according to the materials it has in it.
  • Geologists use these properties to classify the minerals.

Classification of minerals 

  •   Minerals are classified on the the basics of usage and commercial purposes

Mode of Occurrence of Minerals.

Where do minerals found?

Ores 

  • Accumulation of any mineral mixed with other elements.
  • Eg: Iron ore.
